The ICFAI Law School off ers both full-ti me and part-ti me research program (Ph.D) in Law.

Full Time Ph.D. Program:
Candidates registered for full-ti me research shall work and conduct research on a full-ti me basis under a recognized research supervisor. The durati on of Ph.D. course for a full ti me research scholar is four (4) years from the date of admission.

Part Time Ph.D. Program:
Candidates registered as part-ti me research scholars shall work and conduct research for four (4) years under a recognized supervisor. Candidates seeking admission as part-ti me research scholars have to submit No Objecti on Certi fi cate from the employer to pursue Ph.D. Course and also during summer term for att ending classes of Ph.D. course work conducted in two spells in the fi rst two years of the program.

Eligibility Criteria:
Pass with minimum 55% marks in Postgraduati on in Law, in regular study mode, from a recognized University.

The following candidates who sati sfy the eligibility criteria are eligible for admission into part ti me Ph.D. Program:

  • Regular teachers working in University Law Colleges or affi liated Law Colleges with a minimum of three years conti nuous teaching experience.
  • Practi cing Advocates with a minimum of 5 years professional experience.
  • Judicial Offi cers with a minimum of 5 years experience. Reti red Judicial Offi cers are also eligible to pursue Ph.D. Program in Law.
  • Any Gazett ed Offi cer with a minimum of 8 years of administrati ve experience.
  • Any Executive with a minimum of 10 years of administrati ve experience in any recognized Law Firm/ Tax Consultants/ Public or Private Limited Company/ Company Secretaries/ LLP.
    Ph.D. Eligibility Test:
    Law shall be through an Ph.D. eligibility test followed by Ph.D. admission interview. All the candidates who sati sfy the eligibility criteria shall appear for the Ph.D. eligibility test. The candidates who are qualifi ed in UGC/ JRF examinati on/NET/SLET are exempted from appearing Ph.D. eligibility test.

    Pattern of Ph.D. Eligibility Test:
    The eligibility test is of objecti ve type with multi ple choice questi ons covering the subjects of Consti tuti onal Law, Indian Penal Code, Law of Torts, Corporate Law, Labour Law and Jurisprudence. Syllabus for eligibility test on the above subjects will be given along with the applicati on form. Durati on of the test is of 2 hours. The minimum marks for qualifying the Ph.D. eligibility test shall be 50%.

    Ph.D. Admission Interview:
    Candidates who have qualifi ed in the Ph.D. eligibility test shall be called for Ph.D. Admission Interview. Aft er the Ph.D. Admission Interview the list of eligible candidates for registrati on for full ti me and part ti me Ph.D. program will be fi nalized.

    Research Fellowships:
    University sponsored research fellowships are available (limited) for full ti me research scholars which will be awarded on the basis of merit.

    Criminal Law: General excepti ons – abetment - off ences aff ecti ng human body – off ences against property – off ences relati ng to marriage - off ences of cruelty by husband or relati ves of husband - defamati on – off ences against State – criminal conspiracy

    Consti tuti onal Law: Citi zenship – fundamental rights – directi ve principles of state policy – Union and state legislature and executi ve - union and state judiciary – emergency – amendment of consti tuti on

    Corporate Law: General principles of contract – agency – incorporati on of company – kinds of companies – share and share capital – prospectus – investments and borrowing – management of company and directors meeti ngs – oppression and mismanagement of minority share holders – winding up – SEBI

    Labour Law: Trade unions - collecti ve bargaining - minimum wages, living and fair wages – strikes and lockouts – workmen’s compensati on – Bonus and gratuity payments.
