M.Sc - Data Analytics


ICFAI Tech School (Faculty of Science & Technology), IFHE Hyderabad offers M.Sc. - Data Analytics on two year (full-time) and three year (part-time) modes, to meet the demand of new age Data Analysts.

There is a growing demand across all industry sectors for graduates who are trained to analyze raw data and extract insights that can help businesses to plan strategically.

Data Analytics is used for many purposes, such as fraud detection, credit risk modeling, forecasting, developing pricing models, monitoring personal health, etc. For the past few years it has become an area of strategic importance nationally and internationally. The need for data analytics is due to the massive accumulation of “Big Data” in all industries to include but not limited to healthcare, finance, government (central, state, and local), and cyber defense.

Objectives

  • To develop professionals as data analysts and data scientists by equipping them with statistical applications and other computational methods and technology to handle big data.
  • To incorporate analytical practices to extend the value of business intelligence and analytics far beyond traditional practices of handling data and unlocking the value residing in firms’ vast stores of data.

Eligibility Pass with minimum 60% or equivalent in B.Tech / B.E., BSc (Maths)/ BSc (Physics) / BSc (Statistics) / BCA.

Program Structure (Full-time)

The two year program is organized into four semesters. Every student is required to take a minimum of 3 elective courses in the third semester. The elective courses are chosen in consultation with the thesis supervisor to match the interest of student as well as the requirements of the project work. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Internship Program.

Internship:
During Internship, students are required to take up online project development with leading IT companies to acquire practical industry experience. To facilitate this the University is in the process of entering into MOU’s with various software companies.

Program Structure (Part-time)
The three year program is organized into six semesters. Every student is required to take a minimum of 3 elective courses in the fifth semester. Focus Areas: The Program consists of five core courses along with following focus areas: Computer Science, Prescriptive Analytics, Statistics, and Information retrieval Technology. The students can select one or more focus areas, with the approval of their advisor, to choose a coherent set of electives from different areas.

The core courses are designed to provide an overview of the main technical areas of Data Analytics. The core courses will address the following areas:

  • Statistical Modeling and Visualization
The Program consists of core courses along with four concentrations, namely: computer science, prescriptive analytics, statistics, and applied information technology. The core courses are designed to provide an overview of the main technical areas of Data Analytics.

PG Programs:
M.Sc (Data Analytics), programs is common to all 3 PG Programs:

GATE / ICFAI Master’s Entrance Exam (IMEE 2017) Qualified candidates are eligible.
Candidates who have Qualified in GATE (2015 onwards) need not write the ICFAI Master’s Entrance Exam 2017. They can directly appear for Interview.

IMEE 2017:
ICFAI Master’s Entrance Examination (IMEE 2017) is an aptitude test conducted by ITS, IFHE, for students seeking admission into the PG Programs of ICFAI Tech School. The test is of one hour duration. The question paper consists of 50 multiple choice questions with duration of 60 minutes.

M.Sc (Data Analytics): There will be three sections. All questions will be MCQs.

Section 1: Verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning. (Refer to GRE syllabus); Section 2: Basic programming skills in programming languages (C/C++); Section 3: Mathematics/ Probability and Statistics.

Personal Interview

Candidates based on the performance in GATE (from 2015 onwards) / IMEE 2017 will be called for Personal Interview at ICFAI Tech School, IFHE, Hyderabad on July 21 & 22, 2017.

The question paper will be divided into two parts of 100 marks each.

Part-A is common to all subjects. There will be one precise writing followed by MCQs in Basic Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Awareness in Computers.

Part-B contains MCQs in the subject studied at the Masters level.
